Following the cliffhanger ending of Phoenix, Natalie finds herself separated from Ash and unexpectedly reunited with her parents, including the father she thought was dead. But she can only think of Ash. She hasn’t heard a word of him since she and Elijah were brought to the underground headquarters of the Sentry Rebellion. But she vows to find him. Ash, meanwhile is back in Black City; it’s the perfect place to hide from the Sentry government. But not for long. He won’t give up on Natalie or bringing an end to the terrible reign of Purian Rose.
I had a hard time reading Phoenix (book 2), but really enjoyed the end of it. It still took me awhile to pick up book 3 though for some reason I kept forgetting it was out (probably since my library doesn’t carry it and I had read the first two books as advanced readers copies)… anyways… I really enjoyed Wings, the conclusion to the Black City trilogy. It’s a dystopian with a paranormal twist. My favorite thing about this book is we get a real look at Purian Rose and how he came to be who he is. I still enjoyed Natalie and Ash, but it was Edmund (you’ll meet Edmund when you read the book- plot twist!) who really kept me interested. There’s no intro into who he is or why we are getting naration from his point of view until the last few chapters and then it’s like “woah”. If you like paranormal and dystopian books this is definitely a series worth reading.
